Nikky-Guninder Kaur Singh holds the Crawford Chair of Religion and is the head of the department at Colby College in the USA. Dr. Singh has published extensively in the field of Sikh Studies. Her books include The First Sikh (Penguin, 2019), Hymns of the Sikh Gurus (Penguin, 2019), Birth of the Khalsa (SUNY 2005), Of Sacred and Secular Desire: An Anthology of Lyrical Writings from the Punjab (IB Tauris 2012), Sikhism: An Introduction ((IB Tauris 2011), Feminine Principle in the Sikh Vision of the Transcendent (Cambridge University Press, 1993), Physics and Metaphysics of the Guru Granth Sahib (Sterling, 1981). She has authored more than 100 articles and chapters. Her views have also been aired internationally on television and radio. She has served on the editorial board of several journals, including the History of Religions, the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Sikh Formations, and CrossCurrents. Dr. Nikky-Guninder is the Vice-President ΦBK, Beta Chapter of Maine. She came to America to attend a girls’ prep school in Virginia, got her BA from Wellesley College, MA from the University of Pennsylvania, and PhD from Temple University.
